{Washington Reuters news agency}
US SECRETARY OF STATE COLIN POWELL HAS QUIT!. Powell who was often wary of america's superpower diplomacy,was viewed as the voice of moderation in an administration dominated by right-wing hawks.The former 4 star general and black secretary of state said "he wanted to return to private life" his resignation comes ahead of a vital visit to the Middle East in a push for peace in the region,he will stay on until a successor is confirmed.
bush's national security advisor Condoleezza Rice is tipped to be his successor

Last year Powell tainted his exemplary record by using flawed evidence over WMD to make bush's case for war with Iraq.
.............................................................
I wonder if this is the real reason for his resignation now he see's the effect of his lies.

Powell announced over two years ago that he was only interested in serving during the first term of President Bush’s presidency and that he would step down if a second term was served. Therefore, I think his resignation shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Nor do I think it has anything to do with the WMD fiasco since he made his feelings known about leaving before any of that came about.

Hmm As far as politicians go I neither trust nor believe a word they say...However he seemed too quick to parrot Bush's twisted and ill advised opinions,and i possibly misconstrued that as a lack of integrity a quality i had always admired in Powell...Ah well maybe your man will tell us the "true" story....before we grow old perhaps.

I am of the opinion that he quit so that he can run for the presidency in 2008. I guess he hopes to break all ties with the Bush administration before then if at all possible. Perhaps this was all part of his plan to begin with?
